Julien Sanon, MD, MPH, CNS, LDN, CNSC, L.Ac.
Julien Sanon is an internist, hospitalist, obesity/weight management specialist currently working in Grand View Hospital and affiliated with Temple University Jeanes Hospital. He is licensed as a physician, a dietitian nutritionist (LDN) and an acupuncturist (L.Ac.). Dr Sanon has 4 board certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), the American Board of Obesity Medicine (ABOM), the Certified Board of Nutrition Specialists (CBNS) and the the National Board of Nutrition Support Certification (CBNSC). He is one of the 15 physicians in the state of Pennsylvania with a board certification in Obesity Medicine and one of the few LDN's or physicians with a certification to provide tube or IV feedings from the American Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (ASPEN).
Dr. Sanon attended medical school at the Universidad Autonoma del Estado de Hidalgo in Mexico. After a rotatory internship in the American British Cowdray (ABC) hospital in Mexico City, he completed his internship and residency at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York with training in both Elmhurst Hospital and Mount Sinai Hospital. His curiosity further led him to an academic year training in Acupuncture in Boston with the prestigious Harvard program "Structural Acupuncture for Physicians". He later enrolled in the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, where he graduated with a Master of Public Health and Nutrition (MPH-N). Further training will take him to Harvard Massachusetts General Hospital Weight Center where he will learn to manage complex obesity and nutrition problems pre and post surgery from some of the leaders in the field of Obesity Medicine and nutrition such as Dr Lee M.Kaplan. In Philadelphia, he performed an externship with Temple University Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE) under the leadership of Dr Gary Foster, a leading expert in the field of Obesity Medicine and the current chief science officer of Weight Watchers International. Obesity Medicine/Weight Management is a complex problem requiring a multidisciplinary approach from medicine, nutrition, psychology, exercise physiology, public health just to name a few. As a former successful personal trainer in Manhattan with extensive training in the field, I always incorporate exercise in my weight management plan. Psychology is an essential component in obesity medicine with emotional eating, binge eating disorder, night eating syndrome as recurrent problems in weight management. Through training in Motivational Interviewing, Mind Body Medicine as well as Massachusetts General Psychiatry Academy Cognitive Behavior Therapy( CBT) program, he is well equipped to help his patients with their weight loss struggle. Dr Sanon attends meetings regularly with a group of psychologists in the Philadelphia area during the year and value their input tremendously. He is a member of the Obesity Society, the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and attend about 3-4 obesity conferences per year throughout the country. His goal is to serve as a reliable bridge and translate the obesity research results into effective strategies for his patients.
